THE 1999 SHOTCLOCK

The new shotclock for 1999 works off of infared technology. This is the
same thing that most TV remotes work off of. However it does differ
somewhat from a remote. Your remote sends a signal to a receiver
(your TV) that is quite strong and designed to work from anywhere in
the room under many conditions. The shot clock works just the
opposite. The sensors send out a very weak signal designed to extend
just beyond the goal. Therefore they are very sensitive to lighting
conditions. They will not work where any ultraviolet light is present.
This means no natural light. Sunlight or natural light will cause the
sensors to malfunction and the unit will not score.

How to test your lighting conditions.

Set the scoring unit to test mode. The switch is found on the back of the
scorer. (Play - Test) When in test mode your scorer should have 88
showing for each players score. In test mode the 88 on the left is the top two
sensors and the 88 on the right is the bottom sensor. When you switch
the unit to test mode there should be little or no activity on the scorer.
Always hit the reset button after you switch to test mode.

In test mode when a sensor is activated it will register an 11 in place of
the 88 where the score should be.

After you switch to test mode and hit the reset button if you are
receiving and audible sound and a constant 11 on one or both sides of
the scorer you may have a bad lighting situation. Try moving the entire
unit one direction or another away from your light source. If this does
not help try disconnecting and reconnecting the sensor plugs. Make
sure they are plugged in all the way!

What you are after in test mode is the scorer reading 88 on both sides.
As you slowly lower the ball into the rim from above, the left hand score
should change to an 11 and the unit will beep. The same holds true
when you raise the ball from under the rim but the right hand score will
change to an 11 and the unit will beep.

When in test mode the sensitivity of the sensors can vary and the unit
still perform normally in play mode under the correct lighting conditions.

Try dropping the ball through the
rim in test mode and see if you get a solid 11 on the left and right side of
the scorer as the ball passes through the rim. If so the unit should work
normally under play conditions.

If you have tried everything listed here and your scorer still does not
work please contact us by email, fax (812-467-1399) or phone 800-467-
1421 to describe what your unit is doing. Should you need a new scoring unit
please note that the scoring unit and sensors are a matched set. You
will need to install the sensors that come with the new unit to your
backboard.
